AutoLinker
is highly configurable.
There is a huge variety of choices for each aspect of your AutoLinks allowing you endless possibilities to create a unique look for your website.
If you feel that there is some other way in which you would like to configure your AutoLinks, then let us know. We can probably supply you with what you want.
Here are the definitions of some of the terms used in the AutoLinker set-up process.
AutoLink Creation Page - This is where you design your templates or create your AutoLinks or make any changes. It is very simple and familiar.
Normally you would access this page by selecting "Add link" in the AutoLinker Admin Console.
Category - If you have a lot of AutoLinks then you may want to categorise them for your own ease of access. You don't have to setup categories at all. But you might want to store some AutoLinks as information links or advertising links, links to external documents or links to internal documents. It is up to you. If you have setup some categories then you can assign AutoLinks to any category at any time and change it later if you want.
Display template - this controls the style of the link (underlined, colour etc) as well as any icon shown next to the link. (There are so far about 25 link icons.) How do you want the AutoLink to look? You can decide that an AutoLink is indicated by keywords in bold, or bold italics, or in red or blue or some other colour. You can also configure your AutoLInks as popups which contain information or even images - or you can configure the AutoLInk as a hyperlink. You can even decide that an AutoLink will be both a hyperlink and a popup.
You can prepare and save your own custom-made link templates for future use. You can keep a library of the templates you have designed - even if you are not presently using them. You can then use them for particular AutoLink categories which you later set up.
Your AutoLink templates will be stored in their own directory on your server so that they will not be affected by future AutoLink upgrades or vBulletin upgrades.
Keywords - these are the triggers for your AutoLink. List the words or phrases you want to be AutoLinked separated by a comma. You can add to or alter the keywords at any time.
Popup This is the square box which appears when the mouse pointer is hovered over the AutoLink. You can change the border and background colours of the popup box. You can decide to give the box a shadow so that it has a semi-3D effect.
You can also configure the way that the popup box behaves in relation to the mouse-pointer actions.
You can make the popup appear only while the mouse-pointer is over the AutoLink. You can make the popup box sticky - meaning that it will only disappear when the mouse is clicked again. You can tell the popup box to follow the mouse around the screen.
Instead of a popup box you can configure the popup as a balloon containing just one or two lines of text.
Using all of these combinations of colours and effects you can design an individual look and feel which suits the needs of your website.
Mouseover action:- You can trigger the AutoLink merely by hovering your mouse of the keyword, by clicking the keyword or by clicking and holding your mouse button down.
href action:- You can configure the behaviour of each AutoLink in many ways. You can configure it merely as a hyperlink which takes your reader to an advertisement or to another part of your website. You can configure the AutoLink to produce a balloon pop-up - square or rounded. You might normally use this with a mouse hover to display a short explanatory one-liner.
You could configure the AutoLink to produce a full pop-up box containing several lines of text in any colour or font on any background. Pop-ups can contain links or graphics.
Sticky (popup remains on mouse-out):- You can design the template so that the balloon or pop-up is displayed until clicked or for a predetermined length of time. It's up to you.
Add nofollow to link?:- And of course, where the your keywords are configured as a hyperlink or where your pop-up contains a hyperlink, you can flag it as follow or nofollow. That way you can be sure that you keep the search engine spiders within your site where your hyperlinks go externally, but let them roam around when your links are internal.
